PRESS RELEASE
Metrofunk.com Launches Into Public Beta
Metrofunk.com, the first online social network devoted to nightlife, fashion, film, and music announced today that Metrofunk.com has officially launched into public beta. All the content of the site will now be freely available for public viewing when non-members go to the site.
Now non-members can check out exclusive events that are happening in the area as well as browse through premium videos, articles, galleries, and music from the creative worlds of fashion, music, and film. However, to preserve the exclusivity of the site and maintain the integrity of its users, membership to the Metrofunk.com community will remain invite-only. This move will allow Metrofunk.com to continue to operate as an invite-only site but also give its trendsetters a focused channel to expose their creative works and events.
The site operates quite differently from other niche social networking sites on the internet in the sense that Metrofunk.com is not so much a social network, but more a network of independent social networks. Each individual network is run by a trendsetter with a specific creative mission. Trendsetters on Metrofunk.com all have their own branded social networks with ownership and influence over members within their network.
A user becomes part of Metrofunk.com's community only when they are invited by an existing trendsetter on the site. Trendsetters are greatly incentivized to build a strong network as that will help increase the popularity and support of their creative works. Additionally, if a non-member is viewing the site and sees content that they like, they can immediately submit an "invite request" to the specific trendsetter and request to be part of their network.
When asked how opening up will affect the site, Co-Founder and CTO Adam Helfgott responds, "with all the attention we've been getting, we're expecting quite a significant surge in traffic. However, Elastra, the infrastructure scaling solution that we have in place will allow us to effectively leverage Amazon's EC2 and S3 technology to scale quickly and cost effectively with having an impact on our web services."
Metrofunk.com has also begun partnership discussions with established organizations within the nightlife, fashion, film, and music industries. The company has recently secured a partnership with IMG's FashionWeekDaily.com. Metrofunk.com will provide IMG's online fashion publication with a community and content distribution platform for their users and subscribers.
Metrofunk.com's red carpet launch party back in November, which was hosted and attended by such celebrity figures as John Mayer, Ashlee Simpson, Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz, Gym Class Heroes Travis McCoy, and dozens of other prominent industry figures, received quite an overwhelming response from both the press and the public. So overwhelming that the online company decided to expand the network offline and launch Club Metrofunk. The celebration of the Metrofunk.com's public launch will be held tonight at Club Metrofunk (532 W 27th Street, New York, New York). Club Metrofunk will be open every Wednesday thereafter to provide an offline place for its members to network and expose their creative works.
PRESS RELEASE
Metrofunk.com Launch Party at Club Metrofunk
Metrofunk.com, the first metropolitan based online social network built by trendsetters for trendsetters, announced today that they will celebrate the company's launch into public beta on Wednesday, March 19th at Club Metrofunk, located at 532 West 27th Street. If the address sounds familiar, that is because it is the address of the popular Manhattan nightclub, Home.
New York nightclubs have been known to be at the forefront of style, culture, and class. Many trends in the late 80s and early 90s such as break dancing, various fashion fads, and music artists like: Prince, C C Music Factory, George Michael, Wham, and Information Society were born from nightclubs when the nightlife scene encouraged outrageous personalities and unique styles. Metrofunk.com and Home have collaborated in an effort to revitalize this long lost New York nightlife culture by dedicating Wednesday nights specifically to trendsetters in the nightlife, fashion, film, and music industries. Starting Wednesday March 19th and continuing every Wednesday thereafter, Home will officially be renamed Club Metrofunk.
Metrofunk.com is a project that began three years ago by industry veterans with the primary focus of facilitating creativity, foster openness, and empowering trendsetters within the industries of nightlife, fashion, film, and music. By taking on the form of an offline establishment every Wednesday, Club Metrofunk will be able to establish a real and stable networking environment for trendsetters to mingle and network with the people that support their creative vision, style, and mission.
The early portion of the night will serve as an offline showcase that will allow music artists to perform new hits, filmmakers to present their latest projects, fashion designers to expose their new lines, and so forth. The film feature for the debut night will be "Fly," an unorthodox and insightful view of combined creative genres including art, fashion, music, and film. Its methodology of representing the subconscious mind through film and photography has been raved about in Vogue, Nylon, WWD, and New York Times. The latter portion of the night will be fueled by celebrity nightlife personalities and their gorgeous entourages.
Jon B, owner of nightclubs Home and Guesthouse states, "I've seen my fair share of events focused websites and social networks on the Internet, and I think the Metrofunk model is truly unique and I am looking forward to having Club Metrofunk create a new and exciting night at Home, where some of the City's great musicians and filmmakers will get a chance to showcase their work to industry tastemakers."
Metrofunk's CEO, Han Kao says, "We are working hard to ensure that every aspect of Club Metrofunk will exemplify an atmosphere that reflects what Metrofunk stands for. Metrofunk is not just a website, or some cool new fad. It may manifest in the form of a website or an offline nightclub, but ultimately it is any medium that will help remove disconnects in our personal lifestyle that common sense dictates should be connected. We are excited to be working with Jon B and Home and feel it is a big step forward in our overall mission."

Metrofunk's Red Carpet Launch Party at Stereo
NEW YORK, N.Y. - Nov. 15 - Metrofunk announced today that their invite-only social network built by trendsetters, Metrofunk.com, has officially launched. Metrofunk.com, a site devoted entirely to the genres of nightlife, fashion, music, and film will provide a centralized place for people to gather information on what is hot and trendy in the genres of their interest. This news comes on the heels of their red carpet event last night in conjunction with Stereo's two-year anniversary party where celebrities, industry insiders, and trendsetters alike came together to celebrate the beginning of the Metrofunk movement.
If you drove down 29th street on the west side of Manhattan last night all you would have seen is a bright yellow Lamborghini parked in front of a long red carpet, and a line outside Stereo Nightclub. A line long enough that it really makes one appreciate VIP treatment, exactly what Metrofunk.com gives its users. Various celebrities came out to celebrate occasion with Metrofunk.com and Stereo. Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz and Gym Class Heroes' Travis McCoy took over the DJ booth before Travis took stage with some friends and performed Gym Class Heroes hit "Cupid's Chokehold." Los Angeles rapper Mickey Avalon also performed his hits, "Jane Fonda" and "My Dick" along with his friends and fellow rappers Dirt Nasty and Andre Legacy. Many other stars like Ashlee Simpson, MTV's Damien Fahey, Aaron Reid of MTV'S My Sweet Sixteen, NYC' DJ Jus Ske, Rapper Ray J, Singer Constantine Maroulis and the famous Naked Cowboy were in the crowd. The best part of the night was when John Mayer surprised the crowd and took over the mic and rapped from his table along with Sherrod Small from VH1's Best Week Ever because obviously stars are trendsetters too!
Metrofunk.com CEO Han Kao said, "It's been 3-4 days of no sleep juggling infrastructure and technology issues, press and PR, celebrities, investors, partners, promoters, DJs, models, event staff, and much more. But it was all so very worth it. We had a launch party that was beyond perfection, insane proprietary technology, a tight management team, and an overwhelming amount of support from trendsetters from all around the world. As of today we will begin approving trendsetter requests and allow trendsetters across the nightlife, fashion, film, and music industries to start building their own online social followings."

All user-generated content is displayed in a popularity-driven manner and categorized under one of Metrofunk.com's four lifestyle verticals (nightlife, fashion, film, and music). The site is designed so the trendsetting community, not hired editors, decide what's hot and what's not.
Metrofunk.com, The World's First Invite-Only Social Network Built by Trendsetters FOR Trendsetters ... Are you invited?
New York, NY – October 25, 2007 -- Metrofunk Corporation the first metropolitan-based online social network devoted to nightlife, fashion, film, and music, announced today that their invite-only site, Metrofunk.com, will launch officially on Thursday, November 15th, 2007. Metrofunk.com was created specifically to allow industry trendsetters such as nightclub promoters, fashion designers, music artists, and filmmakers, the ability to create, build, and monetize their individually branded online social networks.
The Metrofunk project is a collaborative effort that began two years ago by a team of industry veterans and trendsetters. Amidst a time in the entertainment industry when traditional business structures and practices are incessantly being challenged and tested, Metrofunk offers influencers a leveled playing field to promote and monetize their creative works. The mission is to empower trendsetters around the world by giving them the technology to create and build their own personally branded social networks. These personal social networks will later serve as grassroots distribution channels for their own products. They will also be provided with a suite of social media tools to post and promote all their creative works: events, fashion collections, films, music, photos, blogs, and videos.
All user generated content is displayed in a user-friendly popularity-driven manner and categorized under one of Metrofunk.com's four lifestyle verticals (nightlife, fashion, film, and music). In order for other users to view and access the content, they must be invited to the site by an existing trendsetter network. Once they join, new users immediately become a member of the trendsetter network they were invited by. Only approved trendsetters have the ability to start their own networks.
In the age of mobile communications and social networking, Metrofunk.com brings the online scene to a new level. Metrofunk.com is ideal for users who have graduated from one-size-fits-all social networking sites like MySpace.com and Facebook.com and are looking for a more exclusive network with sexier, trendier, and more sophisticated people. One might compare Metrofunk.com to the Barneys and Saks Fifth Ave. of social networking. All content on Metrofunk.com is displayed by popularity, similar to how videos are displayed on Youtube.com, and how articles are displayed on Digg.com. The site is designed so the trendsetting community, not hired editors, decide what's hot and what's not.
Metrofunk Co-founder and CEO Han Kao states, "We've worked very hard to give trendsetters like ourselves, big and small, near and far, the opportunity to build their own viral social network of followers, while giving every trendsetter an equal chance to expose and monetize their events and products on the open market. I strongly encourage all trendsetters and influencers within the nightlife, fashion, film, and music industries to take advantage of the Metrofunk system and apply for a specialized trendsetter account."
By taking advantage of the latest technologies, Metrofunk is able to offer significantly more services to our users. For example, Metrofunk offers unlimited uploads, as we are taking advantage of Amazon's web services, specifically EC2 and S3.
While Metrofunk.com's flagship location is New York City , the origin of some of the biggest trendsetters in the world, the site will be expanding to the rest of the major metropolitan cities in the US and around the world. Also watch out for the official red carpet launch party to be announced soon. For information on sponsorship opportunities contact sponsors@metrofunk.com.
